Greenwood Little Theatre will soon hold auditions for cast and crew for its summer production of “Steel Magnolias,” its final performance for the season.

“It is about two friends who couldn’t be more different,” said Perkins. “One is a slob; one is a neat freak and very organized and regimented. Through a series of relationship mishaps, they find themselves as roommates together in Oscar’s New York City apartment.”

The Little Theatre, which had been holding its productions at the W.M. Whittington Jr. Playhouse since 1967, shifted to the auditorium of Davis Elementary School last year. It will be putting on its second production in those new surroundings later this month, with the Neil Simon comedy “The Odd Couple” set to run March 24-27.

Although 2020 may have been the year of cancellations for Greenwood Little Theatre productions due to the pandemic, 2021 has signified a path back to normalcy, as one member put it.

The Greenwood Leflore Consolidated School District has given Greenwood Little Theatre the go-ahead to renovate two bathrooms at the auditorium of Davis Elementary School.

The community theater group will present its first production in almost two years at its new spacious venue — Davis Elementary School’s auditorium, near downtown Greenwood.

The Greenwood Little Theatre, the Greenwood Leflore Consolidated School District and Mississippi Valley State University officially celebrated their new partnership by visiting the auditorium of Davis Elementary, which will serve as the new site of productions and performances by the Little Theatre and MVSU.

“A Million Dollar Evening,” which will feature music from the “Million Dollar Quartet,” starts at 7 p.m. Saturday at The Historic Elk’s Building in downtown Greenwood, 102 W. Washington St.

Henry gives credit to Greenwood Little Theatre—the second longest-running community theatre in the state, now in its 64th season—for nurturing her love of performing while growing up.

The success and response to the staging of “Annie” is another reminder of how lucky Greenwood is to have such a vibrant, long-running community theater.
