GLT Gets Go-Ahead For Upgrades At Davis

The Greenwood Leflore Consolidated School District has given Greenwood Little Theatre the go-ahead to renovate two bathrooms at the auditorium of Davis Elementary School.

Dr. Kenneth Pulley, the deputy superintendent, informed the school board during a special meeting Thursday that Davis's officials are OK with the Little Theatre’s proposed project.

Walker Sturdivant, president of the Little Theatre’s board, told the board earlier this week that the organization would like to renovate two bathrooms adjacent to the auditorium, including adding running water, to accommodate Little Theatre guests and participants.

Sturdivant said the organization would pay approximately $36,000 for the project.

A contract approved earlier this year by the school board allows Greenwood Little Theatre to use the auditorium for productions for four years.

The theater group also has been granted permission, pending school board approval, to renovate the auditorium at its own expense.

Pulley congratulated the Little Theatre during Thursday’s board meeting “in their efforts in revitalizing that great auditorium at Davis Elementary School.”

The next step is for Greenwood Little Theatre representatives to meet with Davis Elementary officials to determine the appropriate times for the renovation, Pulley said.

Also Thursday, Samantha Milton, the board’s president, said that a celebratory event for the Leflore County High School football team would be held at 5 p.m. at the multipurpose center of the school’s campus. The Tigers made it to the state championship for the first time.

In addition to the coaches and players of the football team, elected officials throughout Leflore County are invited, Milton said.

During an executive session, the board continued the discussion of its evaluations for the superintendent, Dr. Mary Brown, who has been away from the office since October, and the board itself, Dr. Ro’Shaun Bailey, reported after the meeting.
