Greenwood Little Theatre Fundraiser Set For Saturday

After an initial postponement, Greenwood LITTLE THEATRE’s fundraising event has been rescheduled for this weekend.

“A Million Dollar Evening,” which will feature music from the “Million Dollar Quartet,” starts at 7 p.m. Saturday at The Historic Elk’s Building in downtown Greenwood, 102 W. Washington St.

The show will serve as a fundraiser for the LITTLE THEATRE, which has not been able to hold a live production in over a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It was originally scheduled to premiere last month at the Confederate Memorial Building.

According to Will Perkins, president of the Greenwood LITTLE THEATRE’s board, there were physical issues with the former venue “that would have had a negative impact on the comfort of guests.”

Looking forward to Saturday’s show, Perkins said, “This will be a great way to have some entertainment and support the local community theater after a season of not being able to produce any shows.”

Following the production of the musical “Annie” in December 2019, the LITTLE THEATRE has not held a show. “The Outsiders” was supposed to take place last March until the emergence of the pandemic halted the production.

The title of Saturday’s fundraising show is a reference to the “Million Dollar Quartet,” a term coined after Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins and Johnny Cash all recorded together during a jam session in December 1956 at the Sun Record Studios in Memphis.

Performing in this weekend’s show will be Taylor Buchanan on guitar, Paul Brown on piano and Nathan Wright on drums, all of Greenwood; Joe Forrester of Indianola, who will be singing; and Seth Hill of Clarksdale, who will play the bass guitar.

Tickets for the show, which cost $75 each and can be reserved by calling 662-219-3822, include admission, food and two drinks. Proceeds from the ticket sales benefit the LITTLE THEATRE.

In October, the LITTLE THEATRE plans to debut its first official production since 2019, which will be “Crimes of the Heart,” a tragicomedy that will be directed by Forrest Hodge.
