Get ready to click your heels together and journey β€œOver the Rainbow!” Greenwood Little Theatre is bursting with pride to announce our spectacular upcoming production of the timeless classic, The Wizard of Oz, proudly presented by Kirk Auto Group.

Under the visionary direction of Kat Coxwell, we're bringing L. Frank Baum's beloved tale to vibrant life at the Davis Elementary School Auditorium (400 Cotton St.) for four magical performances:

  • Thursday, June 5 - Saturday, June 7: 7:00 PM

  • Sunday, June 8: 2:00 PM

This isn't just any trip down the Yellow Brick Road! Director Coxwell promises an experience unlike any seen before on our stage:

"It’s going to be fantastic, and it’s going to be engaging!" Coxwell shares. "We’re using rear projections to add a stunning graphic element, helping tell the story in a whole new way. Plus, we've built an extra stage wing, creating dynamic action in multiple places. Audiences will see brand new faces, incredible dedication, and a truly heartwarming story brought to life."

Join Dorothy Gale (played by the talented Michelle Greene) and her faithful dog Toto (Cecilia Hinckley) as a tornado whisks them away from Kansas to the wondrous Land of Oz. Along their quest to find the mysterious Wizard and return home, they befriend the endearing Scarecrow (Sophie Owens) seeking a brain, the gentle Tin Man (Isaac Dallas) longing for a heart, and the lovably timid Cowardly Lion (Charlie Kimmel) in search of courage. But watch out for the cackling Wicked Witch of the West as they journey towards the glittering Emerald City!

A Community Effort, Woven with Heart

This production is a testament to the power of community. Featuring a cast of approximately 50 local performers, over half are under 18, with many young stars under 12 making their stage debuts. Witnessing their growth has been a highlight for Coxwell:

"It’s so rewarding... to see them growing from being kind of shy to performing with confidence and obvious joy. They’ve developed a bond that shines through on stage."

Volunteers work tirelessly behind the scenes to build the magic. (Photo: Alicia Dallas)

The magic extends far beyond the actors. An incredible team of volunteers has poured their hearts into this show for five months. The sheer scale is breathtaking:

  • Over 130 individual costumes, comprising nearly 400 individual pieces!

  • Elaborate set construction and props.

  • Live music and brand new dance choreography (including two songs not featured in the classic film)!

Director Coxwell expressed immense gratitude, especially to Production Manager Alicia Dallas: "There’s no way I could have brought this show to life without her."

More Than Just a Show: A Celebration of Community

Coxwell hopes audiences take away more than just fond memories and catchy tunes:

"I think people will take away a greater sense of community... [seeing] what we can achieve when we work together. I really hope that people will make this a family event."
