Join Us for Set Building and Tech Week for The Wizard of Oz
Greenwood Little Theatre is thrilled to bring the timeless classic The Wizard of Oz to life, and we need YOUR help to make it happen! From the rolling plains of Kansas to the whimsical world of Munchkinland, our upcoming production promises to be a magical experience for audiences of all ages. But before the curtain rises, we need to build the sets, craft the props, and assemble the costumes—and that’s where you come in!
Set Building and Tech Week is just around the corner, and we’re calling on our community to join us in this exciting behind-the-scenes effort. Whether you’re a seasoned builder, a painting pro, or just someone who loves to lend a hand, there’s a place for you.
What’s Happening During Set Building Week?
From March 10-15, volunteers will gather at the Davis Elementary School Auditorium (400 Cotton St.) to bring the world of Oz to life. Here’s the tentative schedule:
Monday, March 10: Backstage organization, wing stage building, and projector setup
Tuesday, March 11: Back flats, Munchkinland backdrops, Kansas house construction
Wednesday, March 12: Make-up day for unfinished tasks
Thursday, March 13: Stage floor covering, lighting cues
Friday, March 14: Farm cart and Marvel’s cart construction
Saturday, March 15: Painting day and costume assembly
There’s plenty to do, and no experience is required! As Director Kat Coxwell says, “The more people we have helping, the more fun it will be and the less time it will take.”
How You Can Help
We’re looking for volunteers to assist with:
Building and construction
Painting and set design
Costume assembly and sewing
We’re also in need of tools and supplies, including drills, saws, sewing machines, paint, fabric, and more. If you can donate or lend any items, please let us know!
Why Volunteer?
Volunteering during Set Building Week is more than just helping out—it’s about being part of a creative community and contributing to something truly special. As Kat puts it, “Anyone who volunteers gains a sense of community and camaraderie. You get to be part of something on a large scale and hopefully something that will be viewed by hundreds of people.”
Plus, this production features an exciting new element: a projector screen that will display motion graphics, adding a dynamic layer to the storytelling. If you have experience in motion graphic design, we’d love to have your expertise!
