Spotlight on Paulette Clay: A Multifaceted Community Advocate
At Greenwood Little Theatre, we believe that every individual has a unique story to tell, and Paulette Clay is a shining example of this. Paulette, a beloved member of our theatre community, brings not only her passion for drama and acting but also a deep commitment to community service.
For the past four years, Paulette has been an invaluable member of the Leflore County Extension office. Her journey began with a curiosity about the office's mission. "At first, I didn't know what the extension (office) did, so I did a little research," she shared. "I found out they do some things that are really helpful in the community, and a lot of people don't know about that. That was interesting to me."
In her role as an office associate, Paulette plays a pivotal role in managing the 4-H livestock program. Her eyes light up when she talks about the children and their dedication to caring for the livestock. "Just seeing those children, how they take care of the livestock and how they can handle those animals — just amazing to me," she said. "Just amazing."
Hailing from Winona and a graduate of the former Kilmichael High School, Paulette's journey led her to Jackson State University before she ventured to Indiana, where she spent a significant portion of her adult life. There, she worked as a legal secretary in Hammond, Indiana, and also contributed as a part-time worker for a magistrate judge in Crown Point. Her days were filled with deadlines, court appeals, and the constant ringing of phones. Paulette's ability to prioritize and thrive under pressure showcased her exceptional skills.
In 2018, Paulette returned to Greenwood with her husband, Alphonso, and serendipity led her to her current role. A job opportunity at the extension office, brought to her attention by her husband, became the next chapter in her journey. Last year, her dedication and hard work were recognized with the Delta Research and Extension Center's Outstanding Extension Office Associate Award.
In her spare time, Paulette indulges in her love for drama and acting, enriching our community through her involvement with Greenwood Little Theatre. You might remember her as "Josephine" in our heartwarming 2022 production of "It's a Wonderful Life: A Radio Play."
Beyond her professional and theatrical pursuits, Paulette is a proud mother to three children — Kela, C.J., and Jeremiah — and a doting grandmother to Mackenzie.
Paulette Clay's story is a testament to the remarkable individuals who contribute to the fabric of our community. Her passion for both the arts and community service serves as an inspiration to us all, and we are grateful to have her as part of the Greenwood Little Theatre family.
