Behind the Scenes: GLT Crew Working Hard to Bring Dr. Seuss' World to Life in 'Seussical'

Greenwood Little Theatre's Spring season is just around the corner, and the crew has been busy working on the set pieces for their upcoming production of "Seussical, Jr." The set designers have been working since mid-December to create a safe and functional set that is pleasing to the eye.

Dezarae Leto, a Greenwood surgeon, is leading the charge as the set designer. She has been working with Glen Nail and Michael Haddon several nights a week to build the set, with safety and functionality as their top priority. The three of them have been working to complete scaffolding for a platform that will be center stage, creating a jungle atmosphere for parts of the show.

Jeanne Gewalt has been in charge of costuming, which she said has continued to evolve. Gewalt wanted the costumes to be so that the children become part of the stage when they're on it. The costumes also evolved to match the tone of the scene, as they conferred with Leto and Christine Hampton, who is directing the play.

The crew has been working diligently to bring the imaginary world of Dr. Seuss to life on the stage of Davis Auditorium. Members of the Greenwood Little Theatre board have also provided props and decorations, while Bob Draper, who will play the Grinch in "Seussical, Jr.," created a piano set-piece from a picture Leto sent Long.

"Seussical, Jr." will open on April 28 and run for three days. Leto says the work has been worth it. She states, "You have to have an extreme imagination to see all of this coming together."

The Greenwood Little Theatre crew's hard work and dedication to bringing a safe and functional set to life is a testament to their passion for the theatre. The cast and crew have been working tirelessly to make this production one that is sure to leave a lasting impression on the audience. Make sure to mark your calendars for "Seussical, Jr." and support your local community theatre!
