Our History

Since 1956, when a community group got together to perform their first play, local talent from all walks of life have stepped up to create a place where thousands have been entertained by musicals, dramas, comedies and mysteries. Greenwood Little Theatre has produced over 230 performances in its 60 years of existence!

Incorporated as a non-profit in 1960, GLT has entertained and enriched the lives of the residents of our community and surrounding areas, by providing a venue where those with an interest in theater can find an outlet for their creative talents by participating in its productions.

As the 2nd longest-running performance venue in the State of Mississippi, we are proud of our history and our commitment to quality entertainment, and we invite you to be a part of our continued success! We welcome you, whether onstage, backstage, or as a faithful member of our audience. Our patrons, through their generous donations and endowments, ensure that GLT will continue to thrive for decades to come.

As we complete the 60th season, our grand playhouse is in need of a serious make-over. Our building’s exterior, landscaping, and parking lot all need attention. In Spring 2016, we launched a fundraising campaign called Renaissance 60 to raise $60,000 to help fund much-needed restoration. With your support, we will restore our grand little theatre, continue our local performing arts tradition and provide you with a venue worthy of your patronage!

Estimates of Restoration

Building Exterior $30,000 - Completed!

The theater currently has its original metal siding. Multiple attempts have been made over the years to paint the siding, but all efforts have failed as the paint will not adhere to the surface. The estimate is based on a quote for replacement of the corrugated steel sheets for entire exterior.

Landscaping $4,500

Current landscaping is overgrown and out-of-date. A design proposal from a professional landscaper for the front and patio includes removal of the existing plant material, replacement plants, bed preparation, mulch, soil amendment and complete installation of all.

Fence $2,780

An existing chain-link fence would be replaced by a wooden fence 7’ high and 130’ long on our northern property line.

Parking Lot $29,500

Due to severe deterioration, total resurfacing and re-striping of the parking area is necessary.
